The Superbowl half-time show has attracted some of the biggest acts on the planet.
And while names like Beyonce, Lady Gaga and the flawless Shakira and J.Lo have put on some seriously great pop shows – it’s also had some epic rock acts, including U2, Sting, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty.
Aussie rock gods AC/DC have never headlined the show, but Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider is trying to change all that.
Snider has been madly tweeting out a Change.org petition simply titled ‘AC/DC to play Super Bowl’, created a couple of weeks ago by rock fan, Gina Di Lecce.
PEOPLE! NO ONE GETS ANYWHERE BY SIMPLY WISHING IT! It takes true effort! We are stalled at 19,500. DO NOT LET THIS BE! Push, post, annoy, SCREAM, YELL, STAMP YOUR FEET! #WEWANNAROCKSB55!! I start doing press on this tomorrow…I NEED 20K!! Please help. 🙂 https://t.co/zNPfnk4oKn

“It’s been a while since we’ve had some REAL METAL play the halftime show for the Super Bowl,” the petition reads.
“Don’t get me wrong, ALL MUSIC artists have done a great job and SHOULD play the show, but we all need a turn. It’s time for some rock and roll! And who better than AC/DC to play?!”
It seems Snider could not agree more, adding a 3+ minute appeal on Instagram to his crusade.
“I just want to be clear about what I’m trying to achieve,” he says in a message to NFL’s Commissioner Roger Goodell and Jay-Z, whose company Roc Nation co-produced this year’s half-time show with Shakira and J-Lo.
“First of all, I’m not against any kind of music. I think all music should be represented at the Superbowl… but it has been a very long time since Aerosmith and Kiss, that a real rock band, a hard rock band, has been represented at the Superbowl.”
“There’s a lot of boomers in the audience, there’s a lot of gen Xers in the audience, you know they’re the ones buying up the expensive seats, having the big Superbowl parties,” he continued.
“They’re the ones buying the stuff you’re selling! Who do you think will be buying the electric Hummer you advertise? Us! And we want to be represented in the half-time show.”
The most recent half-time show attracted 99.9 million TV viewers…. the petition has, so far, attracted more than 21,000 signatures.
Accadacca have not commented, but here’s some of their music…
