Last night, we were given the news that entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins had tested positive to COVID-19 after meeting with Hollywood star Rita Wilson.
Wilkins met Wilson after her intimate performance at the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room last week and has since returned a positive result for coronavirus, Nine newspapers reported on Sunday night.
Wilson and her husband, actor Tom Hanks, are quarantined in a Gold Coast hospital after testing positive to COVID-19 on Thursday.
“Richard Wilkins has tested positive to COVID-19. Richard is not showing any symptoms of the virus and has been self-isolating, on his own at home, since Thursday last week,” a spokeswoman said.
As many would know, Richard’s son Christian is competing on Dancing With The Stars, and like everybody else, didn’t receive the news until after last night’s show.
In an Instagram story post, the 24-year-old said: “I was not aware of my dad’s positive [test] results to Coronavirus until after the show. Since finding out both Lily [Cornish] and myself have both been self-isolating. And we’re gonna be tested first thing in the morning.”
As a result, the Dancing With The Stars cast and crew have also been encouraged to go into self-isolation while they wait for Christian’s results to come through later this week.
Unfortunately, this means that our very own Amanda Keller has to wait for the news too.
“It was an unusual night… and then we all come off air and we hear that his [Christian Wilkins] dad Richard has tested positive for coronavirus,” Amanda explained.
She added, “The show, even before this, was taking massive precautions. There was hand sanitiser everywhere, there was a nurse on hand who came up to us constantly throughout the day with a little heat thing… to test everyone’s temperature”.
