To mark the 40th anniversary of the release of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” an air check of the first time it was played on the radio has been posted on the band’s website.

At just under six minutes, it was deemed to be too long by both the band’s manager and the record label. But after Capital Radio London DJ Kenny Everett was given a copy of the song on tape by Freddie Mercury, he played it 14 times over the last weekend of October 1975 and record stores were besieged with requests the following Monday morning.
