Worrying signs for MALCOLM TURNBULL as the citizenship saga continues to dominate political headlines.
His lead over BILL SHORTEN as preferred PM has been cut from EIGHT points to just TWO in today's NEWSPOLL ... while LABOR has grown its two-party lead to 55-45.
It comes as both sides threaten to refer more MPs to the HIGH COURT who could be dual citizens ... FOUR from LABOR and FIVE from the COALITION.

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in the neck and chest at ARNCLIFFE.
The 25-year-old was knifed at a park just after MIDNIGHT.
Another 25-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned.
Claims this morning our justice system isn't tough enough on animal abusers.
Just SEVEN of the 132 people convicted of animal cruelty last year received jail time ... despite many being repeat offenders. Animal welfare groups are demanding tougher penalties ... saying most people would be outraged if they knew the extent of the soft sentences.
Police have busted an international drug syndicate ... taking 21 kilos of cocaine off SYDNEY streets.
Investigators found the drugs - worth an estimated 6.3 MILLION dollars - hidden in tiles from SPAIN.
They've charged TWO men ... although they admit they're facing an uphill battle because of the unwavering demand for the drug.
