Woman Falls To Death From Sydney Tower Skywalk
A woman has tragically died after falling from the Skywalk platform at Sydney Tower in the city’s CBD.
Emergency services rushed to the corner of Castlereigh and Market Streets at around 2:45pm yesterday but the woman could not be saved.
It is believed that the woman unclipped her own harness while on the skywalk attraction and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
“The situation is it appears to be a self-harm related matter. As a result there was a large-scale response from police and emergency services,” said Inspector Rob Wrinkler.
The Sydney Tower skywalk is an open-air glass-floored platform 268 metres above ground level and is a popular tourist destination.
Tourists on the observation deck of Sydney Tower were evacuated after the incident and witnesses on the Skywalk section were left “Traumatised”.
“This was a very traumatic situation and support has been given to a number of witnesses as well as police and emergency services,” continued Inspector Wrinkler.
“What I would say for anyone who did witness this incident is if you are in need of assistance from what you have seen, please contact your local GP or hospital to seek support.”
No specific details have been provided about what occurred in the moments leading up to the incident but statements have been given to police by witnesses.
“I can’t comment on what people have seen of the extent of what they witnesses…but it will be the subject of extensive police investigation,” said Inspector Wrinkler.
Any witnesses who may have left the scene before police arrived are being urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333.
A report is now being prepared for the coroner.
