Western Sydney House Fire Ends In Rooftop Siege

A man is in custody following a house fire and siege in Sydney’s west overnight.

Just before midnight, police rushed to a home on Cook Road in Oakhurst, following reports a man had barricaded himself in a room.

Shortly after, smoke was seen coming from the room and family members evacuated.

A man armed with a knife was seen on the roof of a neighbouring home. It is alleged the man made a number of threats and threw tiles off the roof.

Police spoke to the man and just before 12.45am (Wednesday 7 February 2018), he was arrested after jumping off the roof.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard, where he will undergo an assessment.

The blaze was extinguished, causing moderate damage to a bedroom. No one was injured.

Inquiries continue.
