Tragedy As Three-Year-Old Toddler Killed In Sydney

A three-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in Sydney's northwest yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the toddler was walking across Abuklea Road in Eastwood with his mother at about 4pm when the incident occurred.

The boy was treated by paramedics and a CareFlight helicopter doctor at the scene before being rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital in a critical condition; tragically, he died a short time later.

Meanwhile the 71-year-old female driver of the Kia Carnival car was treated for shock and transported to Ryde Hospital for mandatory testing.

Barry Parsons told The Daily Telegraph that he heard the crash, which occurred just outside a local park with a children's playground, and came out to see the child unconscious on the road.

"There was a dent in the front bumper bar," he said. "The mother was sitting here distraught."

An investigation into the incident has been launched and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
