The Wild Weather Weekend Has Started EARLY!
The blizzard conditions that were promised have developed in the Australia Alps overnight as the Antarctic blast rapidly develops and sweeps in from the Southern Ocean.
Ski resorts across Victoria and New South Wales were blanketed in a thick layer of snow, in what is set to be a bumper week for the resorts.
In Victoria, there was widespread falls of up to 15cm at the major resorts including Perisher, Mt Hotham and Threadbo.
The temperatures are painful to read! With Threadbo clocking up a delicious -1C but the wind chill made it feel like -12.3C. Which hurts my mind.
Even the wind took it up a notch, with gusts being recorded at 80km/h.
What a beautiful image from a very #snowy #FallsCreek in #Australia as the #snowstorm of the #winter so far sets in! Up to 50cm of the white stuff is possibly by the end of the week ❄️❄️ @fallsaustralia #winteriscoming #ski #skiing #snowboard #snowboarding #snowsports #wintersports #snow #snowing #powder #aus #aussie #falls #fallscreek2016 #snowymountains #victoria #mountain #mountains #landscape
As the snow will be sticking around it means that the snow will lower the temperatures for the rest of the week.
Melbourne's temperature will not go above TWELVE degrees all weekend, while Sydney will get a wet weekend with highs of 16C.
While metro areas are unlikely to experience snow itself, Victoria and New South Wales will get hail and thunderstorms as the pressure system increases it's presence.
Temperatures will then stay low well into next week, with Melbourne hitting 14C on Tuesday and Sydney finally hitting 17C on the same day.
