Sydney Woman Feared Paralysed After A Fall Caused By WAVING
A Sydney woman is feared paralysed after plunging 10 metres from the balcony of her inner west apartment as she leaned over to wave goodbye to a friend.
The 26-year-old's accident, which occurred in Lidcombe at about 10pm last night, was seen by her friend, who quickly put her in his car and drove her to Auburn Hospital.
However the woman's serious back injuries meant that doctors were concerned that moving her from the car could cause her to be paralysed, and emergency staff were forced to call Fire and Rescue NSW to cut her out of the vehicle.
"She was in a lot of pain when she arrived at the hospital and when doctors assessed her they decided she needed to be put on a spine board," Inspector Norman Buckley told the Daily Mail.
"So we had to cut the doors off and the B post, which is the middle post that holds the roof up."
The woman, who is in a stable condition, has since been transferred to Westmead Hospital.
