Sydney, This Is The #TrainStrike Nightmare You Need To Know

When you think about the train strike, that’s been a matter of discussion for the last few weeks, I bet you think it didn’t affect you - especially if you didn’t catch trains. It’s not really too obscure of a thought.

But am I obliged to tell you to think again. No trains running today means that almost everywhere else is affected, mostly our roads.

Traffic is already a nightmare across most of Sydney, with those heading northbound from the west copping it particularly heavily.

If you can - stay at HOME today.

And as far as what’s actually happening on our trains today, a Transport for NSW spokesman told Fairfax that trains will essentially be running to a weekend timetable, that means trains every 15 minutes during peak hour, instead of every eight.

Doesn’t sound too bad, right? But when you think about how packed trains already are during Sydney peak hour, any adjustment is going to cause chaos. Buses and ferries will also be pushed to the brink today, with people looking to these options to replace trains.

- If you’re heading to the airport, poor you - but make sure you leave PLENTY, and I mean PLENTY of extra time to get there. Important to know:
- T5 Cumberland Line services are cancelled from Friday. A shuttle train service will run between Blacktown and Richmond.
- T6 Carlingford Line services are cancelled from Friday. Buses replacing trains between Clyde and Carlingford.
- Some additional services will be available to supplement Australia Day services and major events at Sydney Olympic Park after 4pm.
