Jarryd Hayne Speaks Out About Alleged Bikie Connections
Rugby league star Jarryd Hayne has spoken out after allegations he handed a $5,000 wad of cash to an accused Hells Angels bikie enforcer.
Vision taken from Snapchat shows the Gold Coast star joy-riding around the glitter strip with former Titans under 20's player, Chris Bloomfield, after his side's finals loss on Friday night.
The NRL announced its integrity unit would be investigating after the vision surfaced.
Hayne took to social media to deny any previous affiliation with Bloomfield. He says he meet the former Titans under 20s player for the first time on Friday night, while out drinking with friends.
'There were some people there that I knew and some people there I didn't know, including Chris Bloomfield who I met for the first time. As any human would do, I said hello to those I came into contact with and was friendly as normal,' he wrote.
Hayne stated that he wasn't aware of Bloomfield's criminal history when he appeared in the accused bikie enforcer's Snapchat video.
'I also want to make it very clear that a comment in the video which suggested I supplied Chris with a large sum of money is not true. This money was not mine. This was a prank initiated by Bloomfield and was not intended to be taken seriously,' he continued.
He also denied it was his voice shouting for a cigarette and said he was not involved in the offensive comments subsequently added to the video.
The 28-year-old said he tried not to judge people by the way they look and he can't help who approaches him or films him.
'It’s unfortunate this story has been blown out of proportion and if nothing else, it has reminded me of the extraordinary power of social media and how careful I need to be with people I randomly meet,' Hayne wrote.
