Newborn Baby Found On Gold Coast Beach Actually Died In NSW

NSW Police are expected to travel to Queensland later today to extradite a 47-year-old man as part of an investigation into the death of a nine-month-old girl.

Police say a Newborn Baby Found On Gold Coast Beach Actually Died In NSW

The body of the newborn baby was discovered at around 12:30am (Queensland time) on Monday on the beach near Staghorn Avenue and the Esplanade in Surfers Paradise.

Emergency services were contacted, however, she was declared deceased at the scene.

Queensland Police initially launched an investigation but the matter has since been handed over to NSW Police after extensive inquiries established that the death actually occurred across the border in Tweed Heads.

Police now believe that the baby girl died in NSW and washed ashore 30km north in Surfers Paradise.

The child’s 47-year-old father and 27-year-old mother are now in custody but are yet to be charged.

Police believe the father is likely to be charged once he is south of the border.
