Police Officer In Hospital After Attack By 16-Year-Old
A police officer has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a brutal attack by a 16-year-old in Sydney's northwest overnight.
It's believed that the officer had approached the boy following reports of an assault at nearby Macquarie Shopping Centre when the teen "became aggressive", prompting the officer in question and two others from Ryde Local Area Command to attempt to arrest him.
It was at this point it is alleged that the 16-year-old lashed out, kicking the officer in the face.
The kick caused the officer to fall backwards and hit his head on the road, where eye-witnesses say a large pool of blood can still be seen; he was quickly taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with serious head injuries.
One bystander told Nine News that he was crossing the road when he saw "one police officer lying in the gutter, and another man lying... injured on the floor."
The teenager was arrested and is currently under police guard at a nearby hospital for assessment.
