Pilot’s Last Words Before Shocking Crash: "Wow..."
They were the images that shocked the world as TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 clipped a bridge before plunging into a Taiwanese river in February.
Killing 43 people on board, details of the flight's final moments have now been released - including the pilot's last words.
According to Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council report, just eight seconds before the crash, the pilot was recorded saying: "Wow, pulled back the wrong side throttle".
The final words recorded on the flight's black box came from the monitoring pilot shouting: "Impact, impact, brace for impact".
The report found that after one engine lost power, the captain mistakenly switched off the plane's other working engine.
It also revealed just a year earlier, the captain failed simulator training.
Records found that it was due in part to a lack of knowledge needed to respond to an engine flameout at takeoff.
After another simulator check, the pilot passed and qualified as a captain.
Of the 53 passengers and five crew on board, just 15 people survived.
