P-Plater Dodges RBT, Crashes Into Car Yard

A teen driver is in hospital after allegedly dodging a random breath test then crashed and rolled early this morning.

Police were conducting random breath testing (RBTs) on Parramatta Road at Homebush about 1.40am, when a driver – who had been stopped for testing – allegedly drove off.

Police engaged in a pursuit but terminated a short time later.

The driver continued west along Parramatta Road before he lost control at the intersection of Bombay Street, Lidcombe, mounting the footpath and hitting a brick fence.

The vehicle continued into a light pole, hit three vehicles parked in a car sales yard, then rolled onto its side.

When police arrived on site they were told the driver had left the scene; a 19-year-old man was arrested by Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) officers a short distance away.

The man has been taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries; he will also undergo mandatory testing.
