Opposition Leader Wants Aboriginal Flag On Harbour Bridge
NSW Labor leader Luke Foley has said that he will give the Aboriginal flag equal status alongside Australia’s national flag atop of Sydney Harbour Bridge if he is voted in as Premier.
Mr Foley said the plan made up some of his party’s social policy for indigenous recognition at the next state election.
Mr Foley told News Limited that, “I think there is unfinished business when it comes to our relationship with Australia’s first people”
“The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the most recognisable image of Sydney right around the world… reconciliation with the First Australians has to occur in Sydney.”
The Aboriginal flag currently flies for only 15 days of the year including Australia Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.
Mr Foley was inspired by an online petition organised by young indigenous woman Cheree Toka.
