JonBenet Ramsey's Killer Revealed

For more than 20 years the mystery of who murdered six-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey has baffled investigators and the general public.

While there have been numerous suspects and multiple theories, a group of investigators say they've made a breakthrough, claiming older brother Burke Ramsey was responsible for killing little JonBenet.

The documentary The Case Of: Jonbenet Ramsey was a ratings hit across America and Australia; the two part series saw world leading experts re-examine evidence and even recreate a model of the family's house.

And last night on Nine the team concluded that the then 9-year-old struck his little sister over the head with a torch after fighting over a midnight snack of fresh pineapple. They alleged the death was an accident which was covered up by Burke's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey.

JonBenet was reported missing by her mother on Boxing-Day morning in 1996. Patsy claimed to have found a ransom note demanding $118,000 US. The six-year-old was found later that day beaten and strangled on the floor of the family's cellar, bound and gagged.

On Monday night, the team of experts dissected the three page ransom note found on the family's staircase. They concluded that the letter was used in an attempt to mislead police; the paper and pen used to write the ransom note were discovered inside the Ramsey home. They said it didn't make sense for a kidnapper to break into a house and write a lengthy three page note. The letter was also analysed by a language expert who concluded it it was written by a woman.

FBI profiler Jim Clemente said it was clear the Ramsey's didn't want the case to be solved and that is why is still remains unresolved. The investigators ruled it was 'atypical' for the family not to want to be involved as most families would be desperate to resolve such a case.

Former Chief Investigator for the District Attorney in Boulder, James Kolar, presented his theory on Burke Ramsey to the experts who agreed unanimously. His hypothesis is the Ramsey's came home at around 9:30-10pm on Christmas night. John carried a sleeping JonBenet upstairs to bed while Patsy remained downstairs with Burke who was hungry. She served him a bowl of pineapple and some tea. He claims Patsy later woke JonBenet up to take her to toilet so she didn't wet the bed.

'JonBenet was up, she may or may not have brushed her teeth, that stuff was out on the counter, then I think she was up and awake enough that she was maybe still hungry and she went downstairs' he said.

That's when Kolar alleges JonBenet headed downstairs to get something to eat, while Patsy went to pack for their trip to Michigan. Kolar said she must have tried to take a piece of brother Burke's pineapple and he lashed out striking her with the torch. Physical evidence backs up his allegations.

Investigators agreed there was no intention on Burke's behalf to kill and he was not involved in the coverup.

The program also ruled out DNA evidence found on Jon Benet's underpants, stating it had no forensic value and that no sexual assault ever took place.

The Ramsey family have always denied any involvement in JonBenet's death. No charges have ever been filed in the beauty queen's murder.
