Jarryd Hayne Hires Salim Mehajers Lawyer Over Assault Claims
Fallen NRL star Jarryd Hayne has hired the same lawyer who has represented jailed businessman Salim Mehajer while police investigate claims he sexually assaulted a woman.
Hayne has taken on the services of Ramy Qutami in this case after hiring him in relation to the defence of a civil lawsuit regarding a separate sexual assault allegation in the US in 2015.
Hayne is under investigation by the NSW Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad over an alleged incident in the Hunter Valley on the night of the NRL grand final on September 30.
A woman claims she and Hayne were having consensual sex but she then 'withdrew her consent'.
The former NSW State of Origin star has not been charged and has not yet been interviewed by police.
Hayne, a two-time Dally M Player of the Year, is currently without a contract for next season, is also facing sexual assault allegations from 2015 when he was playing NFL in America for the San Francisco 49ers.
Hayne, 30, has denied the US allegations and will defend proceedings in a trail set for 2020.
The alleged victim claimed she was a virgin and was raped after meeting Hayne in a bar.
