Father of Dead Baby Found On Beach Claims She Was Possessed

The father of the baby girl found dead on a Surfers Paradise beach told police his daughter was "possessed by demons".

Officers are questioning the 48-year-old father and the 24-year-old mother over the death of their nine-month-old girl.

Police believe the girl reportedly died at the Jack Evans Boat Harbour in Tweed Heads and her tiny body was swept 30km north in the ocean.

The child's family was allegedly homeless, and living in a hut made from sticks.

It's believed the baby's father could be charged today.

A friend of the parents has told the Daily Mail that the couple were more than happy to leave their child in the care of strangers.

"He [the father] put the baby in my arms and started walking away," Kirsty Davis said. "I said, 'Are you coming back for the baby?' and he just looked at me, gave me a blank look and just kept walking on."

The Queensland Minister for Children has not revealed what they know of the situation, but reassure that the child safety is always at the top of their priority list. The baby's four-year-old brother is currently with the department.

A local resident told The Gold Coast Bulletin that she constantly heard the infant "crying in the night" whenever she passed her hut.

"Why was the baby left with the parents, just why?" they said.

Police said that the girl showed no visible signs of injury, however the investigation was still in its early stages.
