Explosion In Sydney Foodcourt Leaves MULTIPLE People Injured
11 adults and two children have been treated for cuts and burns after a gas main exploded in a loading dock at Dixon House, on the corner of Sussex and Little Hay streets in Sydney's Chinatown.
Four of those have been taken to hospital including a child who suffered lacerations to the head and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick.
Two men were also taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further care.
The large explosion blew out a roller shutter door about 7.40pm causing more than 100 people to be evacuated from the five-storey building.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews are still clearing the building and ensuring it is clear of gas.
Drivers were forced to abandon their cars in a car park at Sussex Centre with Sussex St completely shut between Goulburn and Hay Streets.
“The fire did not spread throughout the building and was contained by sprinklers and the roller door,” a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said.
“The gas company was able to isolate the line and we do not believe it has spread to any other levels.
“There is no structural damage to the building or any other surrounding buildings.”
