Dole Bludgers Being Dobbed In By Friends And Family

A new report has revealed that a record number of Aussies abusing the welfare system have been reported over the past year.

With people now able to anonymously contact Centrelink online and over the phone about potential fraudsters, it would appear that a large number of dole bludgers are actually being reported by family and friends.

Figures just released show 30,000 people fraudulently gained access to money in NSW, 25,500 in Queensland and more than 21,000 people were reported in Victoria for the 2016/17 period.

Criminal Lawyer, Andrew Weisman told Nine News that benefit fraud is 'an epidemic and it needs to be dealt with,'

'If someone's long-term unemployed, yet they're living like they're long-term employed, that may very well raise eyebrows.'

Human Services Minister, Alan Tudge said, 'Most Australians are very happy to support people when they're down on their luck, but they want to see integrity in the system, and that's exactly what our tip-off line does,'

Australians can register tip-offs by going to the Government's Human Services website.
