Disabled AFL Fan Attacked In Melbourne
A disabled Hawthorn fan has been attacked after a match in Melbourne, with a man expected to be charged over the assault.
The alleged assault happened after the game between the Melbourne Demons and the Hawthorn Hawks at the MCG on Saturday, Victoria Police said.
"It's pretty scary. It's just terrifying. He could have seriously hurt me," victim Ben Ploegmakers told the Seven Network.
The 31-year-old victim, who has an intellectual disability, said he may have "provoked" his alleged attacker.
"I admit I shouldn't of thrown the beer on him but he shouldn't have called me a retard or a spastic," he said.
He said during the attack he was laying on the ground as the attacker continued to kick and hit him.
A 34-year-old Baxter man has been interviewed and is expected to be charged with assault offences, according to police.
Footage aired on the Nine Network on Sunday shows a man dressed in a Melbourne guernsey repeatedly punching and pushing a Hawthorn fan, before bystanders step in.
