CONFIRMED: The Lock-Out Laws Are Changing!
It may only be a tiny step forward, but Mike Baird has announced a "trial relaxation" of Sydney's lockout laws.
The decision came after a review of the hotly debated legislation, during which High Court Judge Ian Callinan put forward a proposal to push the lockout from 1.30am to 2am.
Callinan also strongly suggested changing the last drinks cut-off to 3.30am, keeping bottle shops open until 11pm and moving home delivery times to midnight.
What a joke. A 30 minute relaxation is an insult to businesses and Sydney's global status. Mike Baird is in for a rough ride. https://t.co/EeuklMgxc3— Keep Sydney Open (@KeepSydneyOpen) December 7, 2016
And, thankfully, the cabinet have agreed; the High Court's recommendations paired with the realisation that relaxing the laws may bring more revenue and life back into the CBD - and in particular Kings Cross - seem to have finally convinced Baird.
As we said, it's only a small improvement, but, baby steps.
