Cecilia Haddad’s Ex Officially Wanted Over Her Murder
The ex boyfriend of Sydney woman Cecilia Haddad, who was found dead in Lane Cove River, is officially wanted over her murder.
Mario Marcelo Santoro has officially been named a suspect in the murder and a warrant has been issued of his arrest by NSW Police.
Mr Santoro reportedly flew home to Rio de Janeiro to visit his sick dad after Ms Haddad was reported missing but before her body was found on April 29.
Australian officials are hopeful that Brazilian police will now send Mr Santoro back to Sydney to face court, however, The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Brazil is often reluctant to send citizens offshore to face trial.
The body of 38-year-old Brazilian-born Cecilia Haddad was discovered by kayakers fully clothed in the river near Woolwich on April 29.
Around the same time, Ms Haddad’s ex boyfriend Mr Santoro caught a flight to Rio de Janeiro ahead of schedule.
Investigators have said that Ms Haddad asked Mr Santoro to move out of her apartment in Ryde just weeks before her death.
Her body was found 6km away from her home and there was no sign of a break-in at the unit.
Mr Santoro’s aunt Jaisa Ferreira dos Santo has spoken to The Australian using a translator, claiming that her nephew plans to return to Australia to give evidence for his early departure “with several documents that proved his father’s illness, hospitalisations and other things”.
It’s being reported that police have submitted a request to the federal Attorney-General’s Department to have 40-year-old Mr Santoro extradited.
