CCTV Shows Western Sydney Function Centre Going Up In Flames
Police have released eerie CCTV footage showing the moment a western Sydney function centre went up in flames.
The move is an attempt to catch the suspected arsonists who lit not one but two fires within days of each at other the Bellevue Function Centre in Bankstown.
In the security tapes two masked men can be seen throwing petrol around the venue's main ballroom in the early hours of Boxing Day 2016 before the room is set ablaze.
One spine-tingling clip even shows the fire as it moves at dramatic speed across the floor, dangerously close to the room's wooden furniture.
While the first fire didn't inflict a huge amount of damage, the second, lit on January 3, 2017, left the building with structural damage, prompting police to look into the suspicious circumstances further.
Investigators are hoping that footage of the getaway car, believed to be a black Ford ute sold sometime after 2002, will jog potential witnesses' memories.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
