Cassie Sainsbury Set To Break Her Silence
Ever since police found 5.8kg of cocaine in her luggage at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport, the country has been dying to hear Cassie Sainsbury’s side of the story.
Finally, after months of negotiation with the prison, 60 Minutes have obtained the ability to interview Cassie, and get her side of the story.
Throughout the ordeal, since her arrest, the story of how the drugs came to appear in her bag has changed, with people unaware of what really happened.
A sneak peek clip of next week’s 60 Minutes interview shows journalist Liam Bartlett inside El Buen Pastor women’s prison quizzing the 22-year-old.
“We want to ask you some details of what happened,” he says.
“We want people in Australia to hear your side of the story. Whose idea was it? Whose idea was it to make a quick dollar out of carrying cocaine? How did you get here, who talked you into it?”
It’s been six months that Cassie has been behind bars, after her April 11 arrest.
She claimed that headphones (where the drugs were found) were gifts for her bridal party ahead of her weddings.
Some members of her family later alleged a Colombian drug cartel threatened her so she would smuggle the drugs for them.
The former personal trainer, dubbed “Cocaine Cassie”, faces 30 years in jail. The interview airs on September 24 at 8.30pm on Channel 9.
