Baby Boy Fighting For Life After Alleged Assault By Carer
An 18-month-old baby is fighting for life in hospital after allegedly being assaulted by a man who was looking after the young boy at a Sydney home.
The boy was discovered with serious injuries in a Bankstown unit after his mother returned home just after 11pm last night. Neighbours reportedly rushed to the woman’s aid after they heard her screaming.
The baby boy was taken to Bankstown Hospital before being transferred to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
It is believed that the 18-month-old suffered a fractured skull, bruising and cuts, two burst ear drums and a possible dislocated spine after the alleged assault.
20-year-old Kelsey Rhodes has been arrested this morning in relation to the incident after detectives scoured the Bankstown property throughout the night.
It is not yet known if the 20-year-old is related to the child and he has not yet been charged.
The State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad is now investigating the matter.
