Activists Have Scaled The Sydney Harbour Bridge
Activists have scaled the Sydney harbour bridge this morning.
It’s believed that the stunt was part of a plan to bring attention to climate change.
Greenpeace have said that the protestors were calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to “declare a climate emergency”.
A NSW police spokesman has said that an operation was underway at 6AM this morning after “a number of people were detected” on the bridge. It’s thought that six people scaled the bridge.
One lane on the bridge was temporarily closed but re-opened minutes later and no traffic delays were caused.
The protesters are reportedly linked to environmental group Greenpeace Australia Pacific.
“6 activists have just scaled the Sydney Harbour Bridge to call on Scott Morrison to declare a #ClimateEmergency”and asked people to sign a petition in support of them,” said a post on social media from Greenpeace.
“All over Australia, people are waking up to the realities of climate damage.”
More as we get it.
