Elderly Man Assaulted & Robbed At ATM In Bankstown
Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was attacked and robbed at an ATM in the city's west last week.
CCTV footage released by detectives shows the 78-year-old withdrawing money from the bank link at Greenfield Parade in Bankstown at about 10.50pm on Wednesday November 1.
It's alleged that as he turned to walk away with his money in hand, he was approached by a man wheeling a black bag who punched him in the face and snatched the cash from him.
While the alleged attacker was chased into a nearby alleyway by a witness, he managed to escape.
He was last seen heading towards Stewart Lane in Bankstown.
Police believe this man may be able to assist with inquiries
A second witness ran to assist the victim, who suffered a minor cut to his face and told the media that he is now afraid to leave his home.
"To do old man like me for $500... I don't want the money, but why did he hit me?" the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Nine News.
Police are now calling on anyone who may have information to come forward and have released CCTV stills of a person they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
The man pictured is of Asian appearance with a thin build, wearing a black short-sleeved polo shirt, dark, patterned pants and black slide sandals with white socks.
As well as wheeling a black bag, he also carried a white satchel and wore a white baseball cap.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
