640,000 School Kids Sent Home In Panic, Bomb Threats
Every public school in Los Angeles has been closed, sending 640,000 students home following a 'credible' emailed bomb threat.
Superintendent of Los Angeles schools Ramon Cortines ordered the shutdown on Tuesday morning local time after police alerted him to a threat made to many schools.
Mr Cortines said the threat mentioned backpacks and "other packages".
New York also received a similar threat but decided it was not credible.
Congressman Brad Sherman was given a copy of the email and said that its author claimed "he has 32 jihadist friends" ready to attack the schools with bombs, nerve gas and rifles.
Officials are still investigating the situation.
