The One Thing That Could Clear Up Your Acne For Good

Pimples, clogged pores and a seemingly never-ending sea of blackheads are a frustrating but expected part of puberty.

But somehow it’s even worse when your bad skin follows you into your 20s; you’re washing your face before bed (barring those slightly too-tipsy nights out, of course), you’re cleaning your make-up brushes on the reg and you’re drinking plenty of water.

So what gives?

Jade Wieland found herself asking the exact same question a few years ago.

Faced with chronic acne, the English-born skin specialist had tried everything doctors and dermatologists could throw her way: the Pill, Roaccutane, antibiotics, heavy-duty cleansers and creams, the Pill again.

Any changes would prove temporary because, Jade says, she was treating the symptoms and not the cause.

It wasn’t until a chat with a naturopath alerted Jade to the fact that her hormones may be to blame that she found a way to balance everything out: Activated vitamin B6.

“I’d say that 98 per cent of my clients have some hormonal issue,” Jade explains. “I recommend everyone who comes through that door to try activated vitamin B6, and I ask them every time if they’re still taking it!”

Combined with pioneering technologies like the Omnilux light – a bacteria-banishing white-blue LED light that can give you the “same result as four facials” – Jade’s daily dose of vitamin has completely cleared up her skin and, she says, can do the same for you.

There are two caveats: It has to be activated vitamin B6 and it can take between six and eight weeks until you start to see a difference, so it’ll take a bit of commitment.

Alternatively, Jade recommends searching for someone who advertises themselves as a skin "specialist” rather than a beautician.

“Go to a boutique salon where you’re seeing the owner or someone who’s really passionate about what they do,” she says.

“Even if you don’t know what to look for, go in for a peel and an omni. There’s not much that can go wrong, and that is great for healing and clearing out the skin.”

Jade’s Top Skin Tips

1. Cleanse twice

You don’t need a super harsh, super exfoliating cleanser, but you do need to cleanse twice. Plump for a foaming product and wash your face once to remove your make-up and a second time to get rid of bacteria and anything else that may be lingering. This will make sure you’re squeaky clean without drying out your skin too much.

2. Your face ends at your boobs

The skin on your neck and chest is just as sensitive as the skin on your face, and ages just as quickly. Bring whatever product you’re using – cleanser, toner, moisturiser – down your neck and onto your décolletage every time. You’ll thank us later.

3. Please stop picking at your pimples

It’s not the first time you’ve heard it, but it’s about time you started listening! Squeezing your spots and blackheads doesn’t just make them red and angry and risk scarring, you’re spreading bacteria to boot. If you have got a nasty looking blemish, top it with a couple of drops of tea tree or lavender essential oil; it’ll help dry it up, safely.

Skin is a totally individual thing so while Jade does recommend popping one activated vitamin B6 tablet every morning, have a chat with your dermatologist and/ or naturopath to figure out what’s best for you first.
