REVEALED: The Most Popular Baby Names In New South Wales
Well, the list is out.
The list of most popular baby names in NSW in 2018, that is.
Attorney-General, and Cronulla MP Mark Speakman release the annual list of names that make the Top 10, by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
“Princess Charlotte may be fourth in line for the throne, but the name is still number one for girls in NSW, beating Amelia and Olivia to the top spot,” he said.
For boys, there was a tie for the top spot between Noah and Oliver.
1 Charlotte 498, Noah 321, Oliver 321.
2 Amelia 451.
3 Olivia 446, William 293.
4 Mia 442, Lucas 269.
5 Ava 407, Jack 268.
6 Isla 357, Ethan 247.
7 Chloe 345, Liam 239.
8 Grace 343, Alexander 238.
9 Harper 305, Thomas 223.
10 Emily 297, James 218.
All in all, the Top 10 hasn't changed much over the last ten years.
The only two new additions have been Liam, which pushed Henry to 12th spot, and Harper, which pushed Zoe down to 13th.
“While traditional names dominate the top 10, we have seen a significant increase in the popularity of Muhammad (63rd in 2017 to 24th in 2018) and Ali (64th in 2017 to 41st in 2018) reflecting the diversity of our state,” Mr Speakman said.
“Regardless of name, every baby born in NSW in 2019 will receive a free Baby Bundle from the NSW Government containing a range of essential items valued at a total of $300, including a sleeping bag, play and change mats, thermometers, and a first aid kit.”
New parents have up to 60 days to register their newborn, so this means some of the latecomers to 2018 are yet to be registered!
