It’s been a long time between drinks for ZZ Top, with their first album in nine years, La Futura, set for release on September 14.
The band has promised the album will hark back to the hallmark raw sound of their former years, featuring the electric blues/roots music fans love.
Now celebrating their 42nd year with the same line up, singer and guitarist Billy F Gibbons says the band thought long and hard about what they wanted the album to be.
“We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, La Futura,” he said.
The album’s Spanish title nods back to some of the band’s earliest albums, such as Tres Hombres, El Loco and Deguello.
The first four songs of the album debuted last month on an exclusive iTunes digital preview collection called Texicali.
