C.C Babcock made us laugh and sometimes cry at the sad state of her life on the smash hit The Nanny. Her hilarious hatred of butler Niles which later blossomed into romance captivated audiences in the 90’s.
Unlike her character C.C. who was unlucky in love, actress Lauren Lane was happily married and in 1998 gave birth to the couples’ daughter Kate. Rather than hiding her pregnancy, the show’s producers poked fun at it.
Since the show wrapped in 1999, Lauren opted for a simpler life as a working mum in Texas.
‘I was 40 when he show finished and I thought long and hard about wanting to raise a small child and being a 40-year-old actress. That’s challenging in this city,’ she told the Fran Drescher show.
Before her role in The Nanny, Lauren graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor Of Fine Arts and went on to earn a Master’s degree from San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre.
So, it seemed only fitting that she would go back to her love of theatre and teach others. In 2001 she began working as a professor at the Texas State University in San Marcos. Appearing on the Fran Drescher show in 2010, Lauren revealed her student’s reactions are priceless when they work out who she is.
'Some of them already know that I was on the show. Sometimes I’ll be in class and they’ll find out.’
Lauren told Fran their reaction is a little something like this:
Now 55 Lauren looks just as beautiful, but he blonde locks have been replaced with a short grey pixie cut.
Her daughter Kate is now all grown up but still has time for her famous mum.
Just last year Lauren stunned theatre audiences by staring alongside Daniel Davis, who played Niles in The Nanny. Talk about a blast from the past!
