Vigilant Tourist Discovers an ATM Skimmer!
I thought this sort of thing only happens in the movies but a very vigilant tourist has proved that wrong!
Ben Tedesco, a US cyber security consultant was recently travelling in Vienna with his family when he went to withdrawal cash from an ATM. Although unlike a regular withdrawal, Ben noticed the glue around the edges of the card reader and proceed to pull the device away from the machine.
This sort or scam, referred to as a “skimmer” is usually coupled with a tiny camera above the keypad which reads your pin code – allowing fraudsters to steal credit and debit card details.
Mr Tedesco alerted the Vienna Police Department to the device that was discovered outside St. Steven’s Cathedral in the Austrian Capital.
The video has since had over two million views on YouTube.
