These Sydney Suburbs Named And Shamed For Poor Food Safety

The NSW Food Authority has revealed which Sydney suburbs are the worst offenders for breaching food safety laws over the past month, and the list is long!

They've revealed that Parramatta, Blacktown and Canterbury-Bankstown councils were home to the largest number of food safety law breaches in the state this past month.

These breaches included preventing pests, leaving food open to contamination and failing to properly clean and maintain equipment.

It's been revealed that a number seafood stores, bakeries and restaurants have now found themselves on the dreaded "Name and Shame" register.

Over 30 days, 22 businesses were the subject of a whopping 35 food safety offences in these three areas alone.

Another 54 businesses were the subject of 82 offences in areas such as Mosman, Liverpool, Fairfield, Central Coast and Willoughby.

Ben Lees, NSW Food Authority food regulation executive officer told Fairfax: 

"Blacktown, Canterbury-Bankstown and Parramatta are some of the three biggest local government areas in NSW, with more than 4200 food business," 

He said that Cockroaches, rats and flies are the most common pests to attract attention from food inspectors.
