The VERY Interesting Reason Plane Windows Are Round

Ever wondered why aeroplane windows are round?

Well, it's not just to fit a certain look, there is an important, scientific reason behind the shape of aeroplane windows.

Back in the 1950s, square windows were common features on aeroplanes, however when two commercial jetliners fell apart and disintegrated midair, scientists found the square windows were to blame.

According to them, it all came down to the sharp corners on a square.

Square corners are natural weak spots, more likely to be stressed and weakened by air pressure changes and as such are a major no-no when it comes to air travel.

Curved windowpanes have no focal point and allow air pressure stress to distribute evenly, therefore reducing the possibility of cracks or breaks.

Interesting!
