The Scientific Reason Why Stepping On Lego Hurts Like HELL

Every parent will know the sharp, stabbing pain that comes when you accidentally step on a Lego block.

Not only is it extremely painful, it usually happens when you are in a hurry, it's dark or you're trying to convince your child to pack up all their Lego in the first place.

But why is it that it feels so much more painful than stepping on anything else left on the floor?

FINALLY someone has the answer!

Simon Whistler has made a video for his YouTube page Today I Found Out, which explains the science behind the pain.

It turns out the shape of the Lego brick, as well as the sensitivity of the human foot combines to create the excruciating pain.

“The answer partially lies in how insanely sensitive to pressure, pain and practically everything our [feet] actually are. The soles of our feet are some of the most sensitive parts of the human body, right up with our lips, genitals, eyes and hands.”

So while this takes some of the mystery out of why it hurts so bloody much, how can we avoid it in the first place?

Maybe it's time to invest of some of Lego's custom made slippers to protect your footsies?
