The Project's Ratings Slide Despite Lisa Wilkinson's Arrival
Has Channel 10's gamble to sign Lisa Wilkinson backfired?
After leaving Channel Nine's Today show following a pay dispute, there are now question marks whether Lisa Wilkinson's popularity is on the slide as the ratings for the Sunday Project have dropped following her debut.
While Lisa's debut on the Project in January drew a formidable 583,000, up 200,000 viewers on the 2017 average, the numbers since then have dropped.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Mediaweek editor James Manningsays, '[With Wilkinson] people were intrigued at the start, for a one-off, but haven't really tuned in if they didn't believe in the format before that,'
'There does seem to be a reluctance for people to embrace a current affair-style show on Sunday nights, preferring the magazine shows like 60 Minutes and Sunday Night.'
However, a Network Ten spokesperson said the ratings was 'misleading'
'Despite sitting in a highly competitive timeslot, it has increased its audience by 28 per cent across the full hour and by 34 per cent in the second half-hour, compared with 2017 (average).”
Wilkinson reportedly signed a $2.3 million contract to host The Sunday Project as well as the new digital site Ten Daily. for the network.
