''Star Trek'' Actor Anton Yelchin Killed By His Own Car

Anton Yelchin, known for his roles in 'Star Trek' and 'Alpha Dog', died earlier Sunday morning, a spokeswoman has confirmed.

He was 27.

The spokeswoman said to Variety ''Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning, his family requests you respect their privacy at this time.''

According to TMZ, he was pinned by his own car at his San Fernando Valley home. Friends apparently became concerned when he did not turn up for a rehearsal.

A report says they found him at his home pinned between his car and a brick mailbox.

Police reportedly told TMZ that the engine was still running when he was found and the car was in neutral. It's not clear what caused the accident.

Yelchin was born in the former Soviet Union and his family emigrated to the United States when he was six months old.

Following the announcement of his death, his friends and costars reacted on Twitter and on social media platforms.

John Cho, who worked with Yelchin on 'Star Trek' said ''I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist – curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I’m in ruins''

There are no details on a funeral as yet.

Our thoughts are with his family.
