Netflix Planning To Release A Madeleine McCann Documentary

Almost 12 years after her mysterious disappearance, Netflix are set to release a documentary about missing girl Madeleine McCann.

The then three-year-old Madeleine went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal in 2007.

Her parents had left her to go and have dinner in a nearby restaurant with friends.

Despite a massive worldwide search, police are yet to figure out exactly what happened to little Maddie.

The Mail Online reports that after success with real-life mystery series such as The Staircase, Netflix is set to release the new production this month.

They are believed to have obtained ‘riveting’ interviews with key investigators, which may shed some interesting light on the curious case,.

However Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry have refused to take part in the film, as have their holiday friends and former spokesperson Clarence Mitchell, who said ‘we want nothing to do with it’.

A source close to the movie makers explained: "Everyone everywhere is fascinated by the Maddie story. We would have welcomed the opportunity of working with the McCanns directly but they informed us they couldn’t and wouldn’t consider taking part while a police investigation is into their daughter’s abduction is ongoing. But we have interesting new interviews with people close to the inquiry and we believe we can give justice to this unbelievably tragic story."

A friend of the family’s said:

"We understand it is a serialised drama but neither Kate, Gerry nor their holiday friends and main players have co-operated in any shape or form. And we have no idea who the actors are. We believe it is coming out very soon, within the next two weeks and before the next anniversary. Netflix had been hoping to screen it last year but the project took them a lot longer than expected. They had been wanting to string it out over eight episodes but it may now be a one or two parter."
