Melissa George Speaks Out Following Domestic Violence Claims
Australian star Melissa George has spoken about her battle for custody of her two children following er a domestic violence incident with her former partner Jean David Blanc.
Speaking to Channel 7’s Sunday Night, George spoke about the incident in Paris in September last year where she was “repeatedly hit” and how its fallout had put an end to her acting career.
In the court case following the incident both she and Blanc were found guilty of assault.
George claims there were signs of problems with their relationship when Blanc asked her to sign a legally binding agreement before her first child’s birth.
The document demanded that the boy be circumcised, that the family live in France and the children were raised in the Jewish faith.
George said she never actually signed the unusual document.
On the night of the incident the former Home & Away star confronted Blanc after he came home late and woke her up.
“After years of just that, I just started yelling at him. ‘Like, you have to understand what I’m going through, as well’ and then it just escalated into a 27-minute fight,” she said.
“It started with him on top of me with my arms locked above my head. I used my feet to get him off me for five minutes. I wet the bed. I wet the floor. I just went into a crazy. It was just a moment of like, ‘I’m in deep s***’.
“I fought as hard as I could. “He pushed me into the door, and then struck my face and I hit the wall and fell on the floor and I was out. Just out. And he stood over me and said, ‘Now you’re a real actress’. And I was like ‘OK’.”
Since the court case, the couple has been embroiled in a bitter custody battle, during which George has been prevented from leaving France with her children. George claimed her former partner had private investigators follow her and that she was harassed regularly through legal channels.
“I just couldn’t believe it. We checked. I wouldn’t do anything illegal; they knew I had to go for work. I checked to see if there was any restrictions as we always do and there was nothing. (Then) I had to go home,”
“(Raphael) said, ‘Papa hit you?’ And, um, I don’t know where he got that from,”
“‘Papa hit you?’ “I said: ‘Yes, my love … Yes. I’m not gonna lie.’”
“I wish this wasn’t real. But it’s real. It’s real. You pretend everything in your life. “Because you’re an actress (people think) oh, she’s not sincere. You can’t win.”
“First and foremost, I’m a mother. That’s the biggest role that I’ll ever have in my life,”
“The other roles are secondary. So I said to the judge, ‘You can take everything away. I don’t mind. I understand. I will stay with my kids.’ But how can I support them?"
