Jessica Mauboy's Tearful Tribute To Her Dad

Aussie superstar Jessica Mauboy, 27, has spoken out about how her family 'didn't have a lot of money' when she was growing up in Darwin.

Appearing on Anh's Brush With Fame, the former Australian Idol runner-up tearfully recalled how her dad Ferdy was forced to borrow money from a family friend so Jessica could travel to her audition.

'I felt really bad so I was like, "You know what? Look, I'm gonna go do and it. "If I don't get in, don't be disappointed, OK?"'

'I think I got quite choked up about it. I dunno, I'm just crying,'

'I get quite emotional to be honest because we didn't have a lot, we didn't have a lot of money, so the fact that he went out of his way to, you know, to borrow money and make sure that he was gonna pay this fella back, you know, made me realise much love, you know, that they were giving.'

Jess also spoke of how hard it was after her father was almost killed in a huge workplace explosion back in 2011.

Ferdy is extremely lucky to be alive after being in a coma for 10 days and suffering burns to almost half his body.

Jessica said:

'To have him be awake and be in our presence it was amazing,it was actually a blessing,'

'And so many prayers obviously had been answered because ... we actually thought we were going to lose him to be honest.'
