Body Of A 19-Year-Old Man Found Off Balmain Wharf
Sydneysiders awoke to some sad news this morning, following reports that two teenage boys had taken to Balmain wharfs and leaped from a crane that was situated on a barge, lifted 30m from the ocean.
However only one boy, known as Dave, surfaced. Carl Salomon is said to have hit the water and died shortly after.
After hearing the splash in the water, 'Dave' took 10 minutes to try and find Salomon before deciding he couldn't see him and calling for help. Hours later, police discovered the deceased body of Salomon underneath the very barge that he had climbed that morning.
Police believe “skylarking with some alcohol involved” are to blame for his death, however it is unknown whether the pair jumped or fell from the boom.
Salomon lived with his family in Balmain East and was a promising young athlete, friends say he has also just secured a job as a model/waiter.
A friend of Salomon, James Smith said that the Sydney University student was a "legend" and "The nicest person you would ever meet." “I’m just so sad to see him go. He got along with a lot of people. He was always there for other people so we will always be there for him.”
