Barry Du Bois Opens Up About Battling Depression

In a revealing chat with Stellar, Amanda's co-host on The Living Room Barry Du Bois has spoken about his secret battle with depression.

The 57-year-old says his struggles began when he lost his mother to breast and bowel cancer in 2004.

Things got even worse after Barry's wife Leonie Tobler was then diagnosed with cervical cancer after a miscarriage following a gruelling IVF process.

A candid Barry revealed, 'I was dark,'

'I don't think I ever really considered taking my own life, but I didn't want to be Baz anymore.'

'I just wanted to leave my world and become a wanderer, to go places where people didn't know me. Leonie could see me spiralling. She (Leonie) told me I wasn't the guy she knew.'

Barry then sought help after being pushed by his wife, which eventually led him on a path to recovery.

Barry is now a proud ambassador for the mental health charity R U OK?

Barry broke the devastating news of his second cancer diagnosis last year, revealing that his cancer is even more aggressive than his previous diagnosis, but he remained optimistic he would win a second with the insidious disease.

'In the medical world, I am on the exit off the freeway, there is no doubt about that,'

'I have always backed myself and I will back myself on this and I will have the support to win it... I have the support of my family and my beautiful friends around me.'
