An Australian Mum-Of-Four Has Been Killed In America

An Australian mum-of-four had been killed after she was hit by a truck while cycling on a bridge in an alleged hit-and-run in the US.

Susan Kilner, from Melbourne, was cycling across a bridge over the Mackay River in the south eastern US state of Georgia on Sunday with her husband Troy.

The pair travelled along the St Simons Island causeway at 12;45PM when a truck driver crossed into the breakdown lane where Ms Kilner, 36, was riding, hit her and kept driving, according to police.

'There was nothing she did that was wrong,' Corporal Mattox said.

'She was in the break down lane and the guy travelled across that lane and hit her from behind.

'In Georgia bicycles have just as much right on the roadway as a vehicle does.'

The driver, Gary Arlen Holland Junion, has been arrested and is facing homicide by vehicle and hit-and-run charges.

Ms Kilner was living in the US with her husband and their four children.

The family left Australia 10 years ago and created the Australian-themed Walkabout Camp & RV Park in Georgia.
