Watch As Brave Alex McKinnon Stands During His Wedding Vows
Former NRL star Alex McKinnon has spoken about the magic moment on his wedding day that he managed to stand for forty-five minutes as he shared his vows with his long-term girlfriend Teigan Power.
After their intimate ceremony at the Hunter Valley in early October, Alex spoke with The Project revealing, 'The whole time I was thinking: 'I'm going to have to sit down, I'm going to have to sit down, how am I going to do this?'
'Then at the end of the ceremony, it was 45 minutes, I thought how did I just do this,' Alex said.
Teigan said, 'It made it so intimate, I was able to look into Alex's eyes and feel like we were the same people when we met. He was so much taller than me, big red hair, big smile, his eyes, it made it a lot more special,'
Footage from the wedding shows Alex rise from his wheelchair and stand at the altar, with the help of a frame, as Teigan walks down the aisle.
In his vows Alex said, 'I promise to always be your rock, your best friend and your Alex. You are my gorgeous girl and I promise to always give you my all,'
'I vow to help steer you through uncertain times and push you towards your dreams. I promise to laugh with you, dream with you and celebrate what life brings us,' Teigan says to her new husband.
Alex also revealed how getting married had changed how people approach him in the street.
'Every time people come up and see you they usually talk about the injury or the Storm or the rehab. Now everyone is saying: 'how was the wedding?' and I'm like: 'yeah unreal!' Finally something fresh.
'Before I got injured we never spent a great deal of time together, because of the routine I was in. But that's something since the injury we have been able to do, spend so much time together, doing nothing. And we love it.'
