Sinead O'Connor Tells Dr Phil Her Mother Was Abusive
Irish singer Sinead O’Connor is set to appear on Dr Phil next week to talk about her struggles with mental health issues.
A teaser for the emotional interview which will air in the US next week, shows the Nothing Compares 2 U singer revealing shocking details about her troubled childhood.
She alleges her mother, who died when she was 19, was abusive.
“She ran a torture chamber,” Sinead says in the clip.
“She was a person who took delight in hurting you.”
She also discusses her recent mental health issues in the past, including the shocking 12-minute Facebook video she posted from a hotel room in which she talked about dealing with suicidal thoughts.
In the interview, O’Connor tells Dr Phil: “I’m so grateful and very happy, very excited to be getting some proper help.”
She also addresses the treatment of mental health, saying: “The fact that there’s such stigma about mental illness means that the illness doesn’t get talked about.”
