New Oasis Documentary in the Works
The dramatic history of Oasis will be documented in a new film from the team behind the Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy.
Screen Daily reports that the film, which doesn't yet have a title or release date, will be produced by Amy director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay Rees. It will be directed by Mat Whitecross.
"Oasis are without doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70 million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era," says Andrew Orr of Independent, which will distribute the film. "At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock n' roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat's sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock n' roll bands."
Screen Daily adds the filmmakers have been given "unprecedented" access to previously unseen Oasis archive footage for the documentary.
In addition to being known for songs such as "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova," Oasis is famous for the well-publicized infighting between the Gallagher brothers. Noel left the band in 2009, and his relationship with Liam remains strained to this day.
