Cyndi Lauper Goes Country with Dolly Parton Cover
Cyndi Lauper has sung jazz, blues, rock and pop during her decades in music, so why not country? The '80s icon is currently at work on a new album called Detour, which she's recording in Nashville. It'll feature her versions of classic country songs from the '50s and '60s, and feature guest appearances by top country stars.
To get her fans warmed up for the Country Cyndi, she's released a new holiday single, "Hard Candy Christmas." It's a cover of a song made famous by Dolly Parton in the 1982 movie musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. It's not actually a Christmas song, though; it's more a song about overcoming hard times. It'll be available for digital download Friday.
In the past, Cyndi's recorded an entire holiday album, and recorded Christmas collaborations with both the late Frank Sinatra and the alt-rock band The Hives.
So far, there's no release date for Detour, other than it'll be out next year.
